Human and Humanity

Wednesday 20 May 2015

On  16 May 2015, in response to The Rakyat Post , "Boat people at our door- The dilemma right now is whether Malaysia should allow them in or turn them away...., I commented:

" Please don't turn them away. Just look at them, men, women, children n the aged. Helpless n hopeful. Believe me, I have seen the same look n plight on the faces of the Vietnamese boat people on the Kelantan river in the 70's... Save them first..... For humanity sake. Work it out among the ASEAN Leaders... Call for emergency sitting if you must. The world is big enough for everyone if each one just learn to share a little....."

On the same day, I received 2 comments.
One from Teddy Babai Juel who wrote, " Yes bring it to your home and stay with your children n cucu see what happen ??? Would you like that???" He received 2 likes. One from Catherine Henry Tabor and one from June Listiani Admodisastro.
Another comment is from Alvin CW who posted, " voice of reason and empathy amongst a chorus of hate and misguided reasoning. Thank you Kartina I hope more would voice the same."
My reply to both was as follows... " Thanks Alvin CW for sharing the same compassion. Teddy Babai Juel, may God bless you..."

On 18 May, Catherine Henry Tabor posted, " Bring them all to your house and don't use our tax payers money..we have enough problem with GST and all other sheet with illegals here in Malaysia." She received one like from June Listiani Admodisastro.
I replied, " God bless you Catherine Henry Tabor."

The whole episode sends a shock wave down my spine...
Just like Alvin said, ".......amongst a chorus of hate and misguided reasoning....." And his wall quotation says it all, " I see Human but not Humanity".

I kept searching for the reasons why these people are so bitter, hateful, unreasonable, lack of compassion and .....
Judging from their face book walls, they belong to the younger generation. From their postings, I am very sure they are 'educated'.  So is it nature or nurture that make them the way they are ? But I believe in the Islamic teaching that everyone is borne   innocence so it must be the nurture... Is it the fault of the family, the school or the society ?
